‘Survivor’s Bench’
A specially designed bench has been erected to commemorate and honour the survivors of Hillsborough and serve as a permanent reminder of their strength, unity, and courage since the tragic events at the FA Cup semi-final in 1989.
Working with Kevin O'Brien of Intaglio Creative, we incorporated our technical expertise and materials into this exceptional undertaking, which included on-site sandblasting to create details that were then painted onto granite bench units in matching colours. Once the existing paving was cut on-site, the bronze plaque detail sat flush into the floor.
The bench features intricate carvings that symbolise the enduring spirit of the survivors, with each detail meticulously crafted to reflect their journey. Made from high-quality oak, it includes engraved plaques with the names of those affected, ensuring their stories are never forgotten. The design also integrates smooth, curved lines to evoke a sense of unity and resilience.
